Recovery Tips From a Cat

We can always learn a thing or two from our furry friends.
In my personal opinion, cats are the kings of recovery and if we start to be a little bit of a copy cat we can improve our sleep, improve our moods, relax a little bit and be a little bit happier.
1. Cats understand the importance of sleep.
Did you know our feline friends spend up to 16 hours a day sleeping? That's peak recovery right there. If you're working hard at your job and training hard you should also be prioritizing sleep. Our bodies need sleep to go over things that happened in the day, to recover from training and to reset for the next day. If you're getting 8-10 hours a night, you're golden!

2. Cats are never in a rush.
Humans are horrible at rushing through everything. We're always rushing to try and be more "productive" and fit more things in the day and sometimes forget to actually enjoy ourselves. Should we be scarfing down our food just to get back to work faster? Probably not. Should we be weaving through traffic above the speed limit just to get stuck at the same red light as everyone else? Also no. Not everything is a race. Slow down a little.
3. Cats stay away from doom scrolling.
Obviously having no opposable thumbs and not even knowing how to use technology is a plus, but maybe we can see that our furry friends enjoy living in the moment and maybe we should too. Getting upset because you see and think everyone is always doing better than you? Put the phone down. Getting worked up because some rage bait material worked to keep you locked to the screen? Put the phone down. Set a limit for how long you spend on social media and try starting a new hobby.
4. Cats know how to say no.
You ever notice that when a cat is done with you petting them they get grumpy and let you know it? You also have the ability to say no. If you don't want to do something (within reason, obviously), you can say no. If you want to have some snacks for dinner, you're an adult who has the ability to choose. Just make sure you're eating enough to support recovery and brain health.

5. Cats make an effort to be warm and cozy.
Have you ever noticed how cats will always try to steal the coziest blanket or curl up next to a heat source? That's because being warm helps your muscles relax and being in cozy things is just a wonderful joyous thing that everyone should experience. Heat is great for tight and sore muscles and can help you unwind after a long day.
6. Cats enjoy a good belly rub (until they don't).
You ever notice how cats will consent to some belly massages and then decide when they're done? That's kind of like how you making an acupuncture appointment knowing your body needs some self-care, being able to relax, and then going back to being anti social afterwards.
TLDR; Cats are better than we are at self-care, slowing down, being present and saying no.
