There are many reasons why we may feel tired or wake up not feeling rested, but what if we didn’t mentally or physically exert ourselves? What if we had the best sleep of our lives and still wake up in the morning and feel like we weren’t able to get any sleep at all? What then?

Chronic fatigue syndome is a fatigue issue that has been ongoing for six months, with no know medical explanation and doesn’t improve with rest. It is diagnosed with the time frame of six months, as well as having at least four of the following symptoms:

  • Fatigue and discomfort  that lasts for longer than 24 hours following exertion

  • Waking up feeling unrested after getting enough undisturbed sleep

  • Short term memory and concentration issues

  • Muscle pain

  • Pain in multiple joints without the presence of redness and swelling

  • Headaches which feel different from the type of headaches that one normally gets

  • Tender lymph nodes

  • A frequent and reoccurring sore throat

Being constantly tired and fatigued can be debilitating for daily functioning and negatively impact work life, home life, activity level and more. There can also sometimes be difficulty obtaining help to reduce symptoms and improve overall feeling of well being.

Acupuncture can help with chronic fatigue syndrome with improving both mental and physical symptoms. Needling has the ability to improve overall energy levels, improve the feeling of being rested following sleep, reduce pain and discomfort felt in muscles and joints and more. Moxibustion in conjunction with acupuncture can also improve outcomes of the treatment.

Within chronic fatigue syndrome, common patterns usually include:

  • Spleen Qi Deficiency
