According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, emotional stress can begin to manifest in physical symptoms if we have been holding on to them for long periods of time of if those emotions are intense or overwhelming.

Different emotions can negatively impact different TCM organs, so it’s very important when treating emotional stress to provide as much information as possible, even if you think that information is potentially useless.

For example; the emotion of anger is related to the Liver, the emotion of worry is related to the Lung, the emotion of fear is related to the Kidney, and overthinking is related to the Spleen.

These emotions don’t just affect the TCM organ they are related to, but these particular emotions can be very beneficial for understanding what pattern may be occurring in the body and thus creating a treatment protocol.

Emotional stress can manifest in many different ways in the body, including, but not limited to:

  • Cold hands

  • Dizziness

  • Insomnia

  • Vivid dreams or nightmares

  • Dull complexion

  • Poor memory

  • Feeling of a lump in the throat

  • Belching

  • Nauseousness

  • Irregular menstrual cycles

  • & more.

Acupuncture and the modalities of TCM can be a beneficial tool in helping relieve symptoms and helping your mind and body relax. You can book in for an acupuncture session focusing on stress relief by clicking here!

It’s also important to consult other health care providers when needed to help you untangle some emotional knots that may be forming in your mind.
